Another Blood (Sonata Arctica) inspired ink piece.
6/6/2014 I attended a local metal festival that had Sonata Arctica as one of their listed bands. Naturally, when Sonata has a concert in my hometown I’m there for sure. I think this was my ninth(?) Sonata Arctica concert. I can’t even keep up anymore.
I’ve been a fan of Sonata Arctica for nine years or so and one of my biggest dreams ever was to meet the band in person. In concerts I’ve always been near the front row so I’ve been close to them. But it’s different when there are a lot of people in front of them versus one. Even saying hi would’ve been a dream come true.
And it did become true. In this festival Sonata had a signing session where they gave autographs to people. I learned about this a day before the festival. I spent the night before the concert drawing them a picture (this) to express my gratitude because they really mean a lot to me.
I wasn't sure if I was even able to get a good place in the line but I really had nothing to worry about because everyone who lined up actually got their autographs and all, myself included. I was among the first ones, too, so the crew wasn't tired yet.
As for this painting, I gave it directly to Tony. I asked if it’s okay to also give them stuff and he was like “Well of course!” so I gave him the painting. The smile on his face was priceless. He said it was awesome and he seemed genuinely very happy about it. He gave me a very happy ‘thank you’ and shook my hand.
It was probably the happiest I've ever been in my life.
The concert was also so, so, SO AWESOME. I even got in the front row this time! In the middle!
Anyway, this painting is done with one kind of ink. Everything aside from the eyes is done with one_kind_of_ink. Magic ink. Best kind of ink. I want to do more pieces like this, it was so much fun. And took me just three hours!
