Nessa's Emerald Nuzlocke RESULTS by ShadeofShinon

The results you've been waiting for are finally here! But first I want to thank you people for the great interest you had for this contest. I'm definitely encouraged to do contests in the future as well and I even have some more ideas. I can't promise anything (as to when or what it'll be) but I've been thinking about a writing contest since I got so many responses from people who wished writing would be accepted. Another drawing contest with a different theme is also possible. It all depends on my time and your interest. Anyway, I was really satisfied with the number and quality of the entries I got for this contest and I could see that each entrant had put thought and effort into their works. The chosen myths were very interesting and I learned something new from them. I loved each entry but because this is a contest places had to be given to only a few most successful ones.

The task of choosing the most meritorious entries would've been overwhelming for me if I didn't get help with the judging. So special thanks to :iconstcrlightisms: and :iconky-nim: for providing their valuable opinions and judging the pieces with me. I believe the three of us did good job with it and we were pretty much unanimous with our winning scores.

The judging was based on a score system that in turn was based on the main judging criteria stated in the contest rules; creativity (35 points of the total), representation (35 points of the total), execution (20 points of the total) and the judge's personal opinion of the piece (10 of the total), making the total points 100. I will tell the total average of each criteria and the also the overall total average of each winning in this journal with some commentary that's been gathered from each judge's comments.

Honorable mentions

The Lord and the Snake : ShadeofShinon's Contest by Yunuroko
The Lord and the Snake : ShadeofShinon's Contest by Yunuroko

The myth was well chosen and it was creative and different. The characters fit their respective roles very well and the design alterations were a very nice touch.
The style was found especially nice and the traditional media has been skillfully used in this piece.

Jory Under The Hill by Gar-a-ash
Jory Under The Hill by gar-a-ash

This entry was refreshingly different from the rest in the way it handled the chosen characters. The myth was unknown yet very interesting. Jorry under the hill was more
fitting than the artist probably even realized. Without the description you probably wouldn't realize she's there so maybe more hints towards that would've been in place.
(This piece also fits my own personal head canon in which Thorn would outlive everyone else.)
The execution is really good. The painted background looks very soft and calm and it contrasts nicely with Thorn's very declarative presence.

Ragnarok: Jormungandr vs. Eyjafjall by Karura-Art
Ragnarok: Jormungandr vs. Eyjafjall by CCDragon-93

Despite being a Norse myth the twist in the myth made this piece especially good. Jorry as her namesake world serpent is nicely portrayed but Ey in her gijinka form taking the place of
Thor was really creative and well thought. There's nice use of both Pokemon and gijinka forms, it seems very fitting. The poses are very nice and dynamic.
The mood in the picture has been well captured, you really get that Ragnarök like feel from it with all the stormy colours and raging waves. Also a good use of a photo as a background.

Birds Path by bolthound

Creativity (avg.) 31
Representation (avg.) 30,3
Execution (avg.) 19
Judge's opinion (avg.) 9,3
Total (avg.) 22,3

The myth chosen was very interesting and unique and the characters chosen for the picture are very fitting. This is one of those pieces that unintentionally became even more fitting after
the most recent update. Including the two other dead ones is a nice idea and it supports the myth but either they could've been included differently of including them wasn't necessary.
The style was found very beautiful and the execution really supports the myth as well. Nice use of blue and starry effects. White-lined Sol is really fitting, both for the myth and execution.

Cloudcover- for Shinon's Contest by Aerorwen

Cloudcover- for Shinon's Contest by Aerorwen

Creativity (avg.) 31
Representation (avg.) 31,3
Execution (avg.) 19,3
Judge's opinion (avg.) 8,7
Total (avg.) 22,6

Another unusual yet very interesting myth. The characters fit their respective roles very well and it gives the feeling that there was some thought put into choosing both the myth and the characters. Fenrir as the idiot who decides to walk through a desert is especially fitting. The execution also supports the myth and also the desert atmosphere, hot and dry, bare and empty. The shadow Sol casts on the ground looks like it might help the heat a little. Overall a very balanced piece in which all factors support each other nicely.

First place

ShadeofShinon Contest - Slaying Chimera by Velink

ShadeofShinon Contest - Slaying Chimeraby Velink

Creativity (avg.) 33,3
Representation (avg.) 32,3
Execution (avg.) 19
Judge's opinion (avg.)  10
Total (avg.) 23,8

This is the most creative idea to use several team members - and not to mention ALL team members. Who would've thought of including them all fused together? Not only is the
idea good but the way each team member has found their place is well thought. Including Nessa and Yggdrasil as potential chimera slayers creates nice tension and interest.
The execution shows skill nd it really brings out the good elements about this. The detail is astounding and the shading is wonderful. The flames look a little dead but as the main focus
is on the wonderfully detailed monster it doesn't bother too much. The layout of this piece is really great.

Congratulations to the winners (the honorable mentions were fantastic as well) and thank you Shinon for hosting something so cool! I wish I'd made myself more time to work on a piece but I never came up with a good enough idea. Mythologies aren't exactly my specialty however much I like them. I would have wanted to really know and understand what I was representing as to not accidentally make something...I dunno...offensive? Anyway...

If the winners Velink, Aerorwen, and bolthound would all like to reply to this with your requests; I will try to get to them as soon as possible. Please note: I may upload them en masse. Congrats again~!
