:bulletgreen: NEW POKEMON GAMES X AND Y ANNOUNCED :bulletgreen:

This glorious creature is the legendary Pokemon from Y. It's more likely a wyvern rather than a bird but my first impression of it was a bird. Since we don't know anything about it yet it's hard to say, it could be either. I got so hyped because of these legendaries that I didn't even sacrifice much of thought what this one might be and drew this picture in one sitting. My hand is practically dead but I'm still excited as ever!
I'll draw the wyvern version later. Such an inspiring design!

Also, in my headcanon the names X and Y mean AXIALS (not chromosomes) since the legendaries more vertically (high in the sky) and horizontally (on land).

Overall I really like the new Pokemon and the games seem really awesome, too. And the release date will be worldwide! Aaaaah! I cannot wait!

I hope you like it!

Whoa! I've never thought of that, but that is a really clever interpretation of the two versions! That makes so much sense! I love the way you made the jagged lines on yveltal's body glow like bolts of lightning across its body. And of course you've put your skill at drawing giant birds to brilliant use. I love how you drew yveltal's head and neck feathers, and you picked the hues for its feathers and eyes perfectly to make those blue eyeballs pop out wonderfully. And you've really put the "Y axis" theme to all it's worth here showing this majestic bird bursting through the clouds like a blank shot into the air, penetrating the cloud layer as it soars high and mighty with only the sun above it. Great use of the "glare" rings in the foreground making the height look plain dizzying. Yveltal's never looked so grand. Excellent work!

Now that the games have been out for a year I still really ave no clue what the XY are supposed to symbolize, other than the signature Pokemon's names. Maybe they do have something to do with axials after all, with Zygarde adding some depth and whatnot.
Anyway, thank you very much! This was a blast to work on, nothing like a ton of hype boosting inspiration to creating. And the giant bird of death is always a pleasure to draw.

That actually would explain zygarde's ground type fascinatingly. The pokémon of depth from the depths of the earth, kind of suiting.

If the theory about Yveltal and Xerneas being based on Norse myth is true, then Yveltal is indeed more avian than dragon...which is excellently represented here. :la: (Furthermore, if that theory IS true, we will be getting exactly one more Dragon-type Legendary, or perhaps a Poison- or Dark-type, in Z-Nidhoggr.)

Norse myth? That is new. I doubt it's true because nothing has been said officially yet so I won't jump into conlusions. I do like the idea though, it would be really badass to have Norse legendaries!

That is a very good and interesting speculation and very much fun to read, but since it isn't official I'm not ready to believe in it just yet (even if I wanted it to be true). You can't consider it real evidence as long as it doesn't come from a verified source, which in this case would be Nintendo.
But thanks a lot for linking it! It was awesome. :> I really, really do hope that this is the real theory because I love it!

Well, I think Gamefreak found a golden opportunity and took it. The vertical and horizontal thing like you said would determine what they look like, the X and Y will probably have something to do with DNA and relate to the story line, and when it's time for the 3rd game, it'll be called Z because X,Y, and Z are the 3 arises used in 3d technology.

The Z pokemon will probably be fast because like you said, if the Y legendary is vertical and up in the air and the X legendary is horizontal and on the ground, then the Z legendary has nowhere else to go but forward and backward.

Yeah, that seems likely. I hope the legendaries have little do do with DNA because any biology based theories I've heard have sounded like crap.
And I agree about Z. I'm very curious about how it will look like, Z isn't exactly an easy shape. It could be a serpent, thoguh, then there wouldn't be a problem. I heard this theory about the legendaries being based on Norse myths but I kind of doubt it. But if that were the case, Yveltal would be based on Niddhoggr and Z could as well be based on Jormundangr. I don't know about Xerneas though.

I haven't heard about that. Deer are really common animals though, are you sure there isn't a deer-like myth creature in Norse mythology. Or you could go with what other people are saying that Xerneas is based off of the forest god from the princess mononoke movie. Who knows? I think that nintendo just found a gold oppurtunity with the name this time round. Ya a snake could work for the Z legendary, but maybe the horizontal line in a "Z" could be the pokemon's neck and then the head would just look cocked back. I don't know. Xerneas doesn't really look like an "X" though, with it only being in his eyes and design, so the Z legend could only have Z's on it's skin or maybe have wings that resemble a "Z"

I found some new information about the Norse mythology theory. Deer are common animals and I'd imagine them to be quite close to Nordic things, but it seems that Xerneas would be based on Yggdrasil rather than a deer. It's massive antlers do seem like tree branches, and the lightness and the colours of the antlers seem like some sort of spiritual stuff, hiting towards Yggdrasil being the tree of life.
Z could be pretty much anything, hard to say. But I really hope it's the Norse mythology, though, because that sounds both badass and actually legit since the region might be based on Europe (French influence can be detected although this is not confirmed.)

I saw this video on youtube and it had a Z legendary some fan drew, it was this black and purple snake with arms and looked really good, so I'm putting my money on a snake for the Z legend.

This looks wonderful. Yveltal and Xerneas could be my favorite legendary Pokemon so far because their designs are pretty refreshing and it looks like they are going to break the Dragon type legendary Pokemon streak that has been going on.

Yes, that's slightly confusing. I think the axis would make much more sense, though. The whole DNA thing just doesn't seem to fit the legendaries. But a little is known about them anyway so it's hard to say.

Anyway, thanks!
