Ever had a moment in your life when you are trying to go to sleep and the moment you are giving in to sleep a picture flashes before your eyes or you get the best idea ever and you cannot sleep until you have at least sketched it?

This is one of those works. It was some weeks ago, or maybe some months, time really flies these days, when I saw this piece and I wanted to draw it so bad. I made a tiny composition/colour sketch that has been laying around on my desk ever since. Today I found the sheet of paper with the sketch and though that now I will draw this. And I did. All in one sitting. It was very relaxing and freeing experience. Nowadays I get more ideas that I have time to execute so I was really glad I could bring this piece to life.
The original idea changed a bit due to my experimentation. For a moment I thought I had ruined the piece but then I had an epiphany. In the original the sun was coloured and the surroundings white with some texture but thanks to careless experimenting I saw that it looked better this way.
I had to fight with the colours a bit since my scanner likes to mash all reds and yellows together but I think I got quite close to the original.

I really missed drawing traditionally. And drawing dragons.

I hope you like it!

This is pretty sweet. It kind of does look like an insomnia-inspired drawing what with the dragon being between night and day, but slightly more in the day area, as it clearly isn't sleepytime here. And I think the white sun does work, it gives it a painfully blinding look which kind of supports the feel of insomnia. The night sky is lovely too, and I like the skeletal spine and tail of this dragon as well as the hook-like fingers. Really cool, looks great.

I guess you could associate this with insomnia, however you want to interpret it. Just to make it clear in case you misunderstood how I created this piece, or rather, got the idea: I often get ideas just as I'm about to fall asleep which forces me to get up and scribble something down so I won't forget the idea. There's no insomnia although getting ideas at times like that does prevent me from sleeping.
Anyway, thank you!
