Lord Mithril 2009 version

Description

He was sitting on a sunlit window sill watching the gardens of his gorgeous manor. There was something especially pleasant for his eyes, the smirk on the young face told it. No one had told him to do something else than just sit on the window sill every day, no one dared to disrupt the great master of the manor. Besides, he had nothing specific to do.

***

"He was sitting there again, I saw him!"
"I bet he's got his eyes on something - or someone."
"What do you mean by that? Do you know something?"
"I bet she's just guessing, you can't tell just by spying him."
"I wasn't spying! I mean, everyone can see him staring at his garden. And we do know who spends her days in the garden, don't we."
"You don't possibly mean-"
"-the new gradener, the young lady?"
"Yes, her. I bet that Lord Mithril is pretty attracted to her. And if I'm not heading straingth to the woods, I'd say that the lady's feeling towards the young lord aren't too cold."
"Eek! They'd be such a cute couple!"
"Shh, someone's coming! Now, back to your work you two."

And that's the story behind this new version of Lord Mithril. Few of you might remember the old version, it was one of my very first submissions on this site. I still remember when I drew it and how much pain it caused because of the vast areas to colour ith the same shade. This time it didn't. I suppose that the only thing that I have improved in isn't skill but also patience, which I now have, at least a bit more that then. :)
When I saw the Kick your own @ss contest I wanted to join it. It took quite long to decide the picture to remake but in the end I ended up with Lord Mithril. I'm not an anthro artist and do not draw them very often, almost not at all. And secondly I don't draw pencil pictures very much either. So pretty difficult make make the new version look better than the old one. :'D But I can say that some improvement during these two years and two months has happened, it's clearly visible. It'd be stupid to say that I haven't improved much just to draw peoples "Of course you have improved!" -comments. X) I'll add more rant about my improvement on the actual contest entry which will include both versions. :)

There are some details that I like and I like the whole composition more than on the original version. I think that one of my favourite details is thta small figure in the garden. He's the head chef's assistant who's carrying fresh eggs to the kithcen. :) Drawing the garden was very difficult: I didn't know what to include, on which height I should draw it, should the window be on the ground floor or on the upper floors and such. But eventually I think that it came ou pretty nicely. Oh, and that fountain (yes, it is a fountain) isn't the biggest one around. Actually the path the eggman is walking on leads to the kitchen. The head path is far bigger and more gorgeous. :D
I had very fun with this and making this picture and seeing the result (though it needs some revising anyway) made e feel better. Kicking my own ass was really fun though it hurt a bit. :D I imagined what I would have felt like two years ago if I saw this version then.

I hope you like it too!

N O T E ! My computer is whinging currently and that's why I needed to use ~Pena-Mies's scanner which really hates pencil works. She kindly let me scan this for the contest, but I'll try to scan a better one when my computer works well again.

This pencil rendering is absolutely beautiful. You worked the texture of the paper and the pencil lines into the overall drawing.

Your attention to detail is superb-especially to the scale/s of various objects drawn in the artwork, and the particular attention you've paid to the perspective of the window.

I had noticed a few flaws in this piece. Firstly, there are certain details on the central figure that need more definition. They just seem to look a little "blurry". Secondly, both forground and background tend to merge together in places. I adore the realistic drapery of his coat/jacket, though. That isn't to say that this piece of work is any less for those particular points I mentioned.
