Fight For The Right

Description

Zweilous for "Draw me a Pokemon" in #Poke-fanclub.

If I win I'll call Dragonair.

This picture was both an experiment and also some kind of study of Zweilous' behavior. I came up with a small report sort of thing.

It has been argued why Zweilous has two heads as its other two forms only have one (dominant) head. Deino's case is more clear but Hydreigon is a little more complicated. Technically it has three heads but as the middle head dominates the other two Hydreigon could be considered one headed in this case.
However, Zweilous has two dominant heads that don't get along at all. The heads are constantly fighting and competing against each other. One of the most common ways to compete is to eat more than the other head. The reason why eating is one of the most popular ways is probably because when Zweilous is full it's too tired to move and the two heads can cease fighting for a bit. Eating also boosts growth, which makes Zweilous evolve faster.
Deino stage lasts the longest, and during that stage the Pokemon gets most of it's power and experience. Zweilous stage is some sort of last boost to the growth, as if the Pokemon hit puberty really fast. Researchers have come up with a theory that explains why Deino grows an extra head. It is a survival mechanism that ensures that when Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon it will be as strong as possible. Usually the original head wins and gets to be the leader, but sometimes the extra head surpasses the original. However, original heads tend to be stronger to begin with, and the competition maximizes the power.
After the relatively short period of time as Zweilous the competing will end in a final fight which determines which head will become Hydreigon and which will disintegrate into the secondary heads. Zweilous' evolution is one of the most brutal evolutions. The fight is merciless and frightening. It's not certain if the heads really try to kill each other or if they only try to make the other one give up. Either way the losing head hardly ever dies, and when the winner is clear, Zweilous evolves. Usually evolution takes place right after the fight but it might take up to a couple of days until Zweilous becomes Hydreigon.
Because of the brutality of the Zweilous stage, the dominant head of Hydreigon is cruel and vicious by nature. Some individuals turn into completely mindless beasts but there are also some that will remain as docile as they were as Deino. This states that Hydreigon are incredibly hard and dangerous to raise and only experienced trainers should even consider it. Kindness and love in raising the Deino might not have any effect later on as the trainer cannot control the two competing heads of the Zweilous stage. If trained well, Hydreigon will recognize his trainer after evolution and will remain loyal. But if something goes wrong or the training hasn't been successful, Hydreigon might eat his trainer and fly off to spread terror somewhere else.
